Channel Nine concedes 32 hours of The Big Bang Theory a week ‘not enough’

A senior programming executive at Channel Nine has admitted that it has made a mistake by scheduling just 32 hours per week of hit US sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

“Clearly we’ve underdone BBT so far this year. Our strategy was to go with a scarcity strategy, to keep viewers keen, but that’s backfired. With the benefit of hindsight, programming just four to five hours a night of the show was being a bit too cute.”

Pressed on exactly how many hours of BBT per week should be aired, he said “about 90”.

It is believed Channel Nine will shut down its news, current affairs and drama divisions and now focus entirely on showing repeats of the American show.

“We’ve missed a trick here,” said a senior manager at the station. “Creating original TV content is hard. Pressing play on our network DVD player is easier than we thought”.

The Big Bang Theory airs daily from midday.
